The NSW government's decision to axe its free student travel scheme has won the support of public school teachers and parents, who say taxpayers have for too long subsidised private school students.
But the NSW opposition attacked the cuts, saying they would hurt cash-strapped parents, particularly those "battlers" who sent their children to private schools because they had lost confidence in public education.
